Dot peen marking | Process
In marking by dot peen marking, workpieces are permanently and captively marked with the aid of an oscillating carbide needle.
The embosser is operated electrically by cable or lithium-ion battery, or pneumatically.
The needle moves to the desired marking position in X and Y via stepper motors. Depending on the speed, a braille or a line writing is produced. The marking of alphanumeric texts, logos or 2D codes are among the standard applications.
Dot peen marking is particularly suitable for markings that need to be visible for a long time or for materials that cannot be marked with a laser or electrolytically. Above all, components that are painted over after marking require a deeper marking.
Due to the large selection of embossers, dot peen marking is suitable for marking small as well as large series and for integration into production lines.
The marking force of the solid carbide needle can be finely adjusted so that sensitive surfaces such as painted components can be marked. Deep marking is also possible.
The process is suitable for almost all materials from paper to hardened steel! The impact of the marking needle results in material compaction, so there is almost no notch impact effect on the component.
Traceability throughout the entire life cycle!

- Dot peen marking of a wide range of materials - from paper to hardened steel
- Dot peen marking of a wide range of geometries - flat, cylindrical, in recesses
Dot peen marking | Application areas
Soft materials such as paper, wood products, plastics or aluminium can be marked. But dot peen marking is also excellently suited for hardened materials. Due to the fine adjustment of the marking force, both coated and lacquered workpieces can be permanently marked without penetrating the lacquer layer. With a particularly strong setting, even marking depths of up to 1mm in steel can be realised!
Dot peen marking is also ideal for pressure-sensitive, safety-relevant or thin-walled components. It is therefore suitable for almost every marking task!
MATERIALS
- Metals of all kinds
- Plastics of all kinds
- Wood products of all kinds
- Coated surfaces
- Painted materials
- Hardened components up to 64 HRC
Due to the detailed setting options, you can carry out a wide range of different markings with just one embosser – without any set-up effort!
From paper to hardened steel, anything is possible!
GEOMETRIeS
The marking process sets hardly any limits to the geometries of your components. Both small and large components can be dot peen marked. Stationary embossers are ideal for smaller components, while large components are usually dot peen marked on a mobile basis. The marking of flat or cylindrical components is also possible without any problems. High-quality and, above all, durable markings can be produced.
- Smallest workpieces stationary
- Large components mobile
- Workpieces with interfering contours
- Flat components
- Uneven workpiece surfaces
- Marking in recesses
- Cylindrical components radial and axial
FAQ
In dot peen marking, the marking is created by the individual dot strokes of the marking needle. The result is a braille script. Due to the detailed setting of our markers, it is also possible to produce a high-quality line script.
With dot peen marking, the parameters can be set so finely that almost any material can be marked without chipping. However, some lacquered surfaces cannot be marked without chipping.
No, dot peen marking compresses the material, so there are no microcracks.
The dot peen marking process is approved in almost every industry. Even in the aerospace industry, where laser marking is excluded, dot peen marking is approved.
